The agricultural sector of Kherson oblast economy is an interconnected complex with climatic and technical capabilities. The oblast is located in southern Ukraine in the Black Sea lowlands, in the steppe zone in the lower streams of the Dnieper.
The climate is temperate continental, arid. Average temperature: +22.3 ° C summer, winter -0.7 ° C.
The maximum summer temperature is +40 ° C, winter -31.5 ° C.
The frost-free period is approximately 179 days a year. The average annual rainfall is 380 to 470 mm.
The growing season lasts 200 days.
In the north of Kherson oblast southern chernozems of the forest soil is dominated. In the south they transfer into a dark chestnut and chestnut soils, which are sometimes mixed with salt marshes.
Salt licks and salt marshes are common for the Black and Azov Seas.
Climatic conditions favor the development of Kherson oblast in agricultural production, i.e. crops and livestock.

Top producers of agricultural products of Kherson oblast get high and stable yields of winter wheat to 50-60 t per ha of marketable sunflower seeds 25-30 kg per ha, tomato 800-1000 kg per ha of watermelons to 250-300 kg per ha.
Animal husbandry is one of the leaders in the oblast. Regarding reforms of the agricultural sector it is now more than 70 percent of livestock and poultry is at population ownership:
• livestock for meat and dairy;
• fine-wooled sheep.
The total agricultural area of 1 million 968.4 thousand hectares, including arable land - 1 million 772.5 thousand hectares. In the agrarian sector: 588 farms, 12 collective agricultural enterprises, 247 agricultural societies, 86 agricultural cooperatives, 153 private agricultural enterprises, 15 state farms of all systems, 30 agricultural research and educational institutions, 15 part-time farms of state enterprises, institutions and organizations, the 3069 rural (farms). The average size of agricultural enterprises is 2.3 hectares, the farm - 51 hectares. Irrigated land in the area of 464.7 thousand hectares, or 23.6% of the total area of farmland.
Agro-industrial complex of Kherson oblast attracts domestic and foreign investors. The first point for investment is gardening.
Today being reformed agrarian relations in the village. On the basis of the former agro companies farming enterprises occur. There is the highest number of farms in the oblast in comparison with the rest of Ukraine. Agrarian market infrastructure is still forming. Agricultural trading houses, wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, open procurement centers, shops and kiosks of firm trade are creating.
The rich agricultural potential and a number of measures taken can predict that Kherson oblast agricultural sector will be evaluated adequately and represented at the international area.
